FORT WORTH -- The Fort Worth community where Jessica Smith lives is relieved after she was found safe in New Mexico on Sunday.
Her father’s attorney said she is set to arrive back in Texas on Monday night or Tuesday. Inclement weather has delayed her return home.
When the 11-year-old returns, she will live with her grandparents.
Her father has some legal issues that prevent him from seeing her right now. His attorney said they are working to get the legal situation under control so he can see his daughter.
“He is just prayerful and thankful he his daughter is safe and coming back,” said Tom Pappas, Phillip Smith’s Attorney. “That overrides everything else. Secondarily he’s glad that by her being found safe, that will speed up him getting cleared up his inability to get back with her.”
Representatives with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office and the Fort Worth Police Department have traveled to New Mexico to bring Jessica back home.
