TERRELL — The FAA confirms at least one fatality in the crash of a biplane near Terrell Municipal Airport on Monday afternoon.
Witnesses reported the aircraft was practicing aerobatics before it went down around 4:25 p.m. Emergency responders said the aircraft was on fire.
"I didn't see it; I heard it. I was in my house and I heard a roar," said Sheron Hornage. "I got the garage door open and I saw smoke, and when I looked in the field, I saw fire."
Debris that appears to be from the plane was found nearby in trees. Only a skeletal portion of the aircraft's frame was recognizable at the charred crash site in a field
The plane went down approximately three miles southwest of Terrell Municipal Airport.
The name of the pilot was not released.
