PLANO - Eight people were injured and traffic snarled after a five-vehicle wreck just before 3 p.m. Monday north of 15th Street on Central Expressway.
Plano police said they believe an 18-wheeler careened into the southbound HOV lane, striking a TxDOT truck in a construction zone. The 18-wheeler then hit a pickup truck, which flipped over a box truck and into a Mazda.
After the TxDOT truck was struck by the 18-wheeler, it slammed into a concrete median, pushing the barrier into the northbound lane. As a result, both the southbound and northbound HOV lanes will be closed until repairs can be made.
While eight were injured, five were treated and released at the scene and three were were transported to nearby hospitals. As of 10 p.m., no information had been released on the condition of those injured.
For over six hours, the southbound lanes were closed between Park Boulevard and Plano Parkway, which led to extreme backups as traffic was diverted to the access road.
