ARLINGTON — An Arlington woman was arrested Sunday night after police found her husband’s body in the couple’s garage.

Police responded to a domestic shooting call at about 9:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Lakeside Drive in Arlington.

When officers arrived, they found Arthur Reyes, 45, lying dead in the garage, said Tiara Ellis Richard, a police spokeswoman.

Officers arrested the man’s wife, Colette Reyes, 50, at the scene and took her to the Arlington jail.

“Last night, there was some sort of altercation, and it [appears that] she shot him,” Ellis said.

Reyes faces a murder charge in the fatal shooting of her husband, who was a professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. Bail has not been set.

The couple were in the process of getting a divorce, Ellis said.

Arthur Reyes worked in the computer science and engineering department at the university.

"This is a tragic loss for our community," said Kristin Sullivan, a UTA spokeswoman. "We are doing what we need to do to take care of our students."

Sullivan said Reyes, who was a senior lecturer and undergraduate adviser, joined the university in 1999 and was well-known in his department. He was teaching a software engineering class this fall.

The university is providing counseling services to his colleagues and students, Sullivan said.

This is Arlington's 11th homicide of 2009.
