ARLINGTON -- Arlington Independent School District is looking for a new superintendent after Thursday night's vote to dismiss Jerry McCullough.

Trustees with AISD announced Dr. Marcelo Cavazos will serve as interim Superintendent. He has been the district's deputy superintendent for the past three years.

Cavazos takes over for Jerry McCullough, who had been with the district for 43 years. In a unanimous vote, McCullough and AISD ended a longtime relationship.

He was not present when the board voted 6-0 to end his job. The decision would allow McCullough to remain on administrative leave, collect a paycheck and benefits until his contract ends January 2013.

No word from McCullough or trustees on the reason for the abrupt split.
