DENTON - A construction crew working on the upgrade of US Highway 380 in western Denton County accidentally hit a six-inch gas line Monday morning.

Emergency authorities evacuated 10 houses in the immediate area of 380 near Smith and Ripy roads.
Everyone else within one mile of the location was asked to stay in their houses.

Highway 380 between Denton and Decatur re-opened just after 10 a.m. to drivers after it was shut down for a short time. Targa Gas Company, who owns and operates the line, shut down the gas. However, a significant amount of gas escaped and authorities evacuated the area for about an hour to allow for the gas to dissipate.
