Pedestrian killed
DALLAS — Trinity Railway Express commuter service between Dallas and Fort Worth was interrupted for more than two hours Monday evening after a woman was struck and killed by a train — the railroad's second fatal accident in less than a week.
A Dallas Area Rapid Transit spokesman said the operator of the westbound train sounded the horn in an unsuccessful attempt to warn her.
The impact pushed the victim's body into the nearby intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Market Center Boulevard. The woman, said to be in her mid-50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were 87 passengers and crew on the train, DART said; no one was hurt.
Last Wednesday, a man was struck and killed by a TRE train at nearly the same location. The death was ruled an accident by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office, but the victim's family has still not been located.
There have now been 11 fatal accidents involving the TRE since it began operation in 1996.
