BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise Airport officials say an American Airlines passenger jet traveling from Dallas/Fort Worth  to Seattle carrying 145 passengers and crew landed in Boise on Saturday after the pilot reported an engine failure.

American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller said the captain of Flight 621 declared an emergency after a "low oil" indicator flashed in the cockpit.

"It was like an hour out when we started to descend and the plane started to slow down," one passenger said. "It was sort of a steep descent; it wasn't like a gradual descent. And then you could tell that one of the engines was shut off because it got quieter; it was real quiet."

A Boise Airport spokeswoman told KTVB-TV that the MD-80 landed safely at the Idaho airport.

Miller said a replacement plane was flown in from Los Angeles to shuttle passengers to Seattle, who arrived at their destination more than 8 hours late.

Officials say American Airlines is sending a crew to fix the aircraft in Boise.

KING-TV reporter Amy Moreno contributed to this report.
