DALLAS –– Van Dixson, the man suspected in nine rapes near the Fair Park area, was charged on Friday with an additional seven counts of aggravated robbery.
The charges stem from four incidents: June 30, Aug. 20, Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.
Dixson, 38, is accused of raping and robbing two women on Aug. 20 in the 4300 block of Spring Ave. On Aug. 30, investigators say Dixson approached a woman and her two children walking in the 3200 block of Meadow Street to a DART station. He robbed the children and ordered them to run home before raping their mother and robbing her, according to an arrest affidavit.
The two other incidents, in the 4100 block of Malcolm X. Blvd. and the 3800 block of Spring Ave., involved one victim each.
Police say Dixson robbed each woman before sexually assaulting them. During the incident on Sept. 1, the victim allegedly told investigators that her attacker tapped the back of her head with a pistol during the assault.
Each of the nine victims told police a similar story: That a man, his face obscured by a mask or bandana, approached them while they were walking south of Fair Park in the early morning hours. Carrying a gun, the man held them up at gunpoint then led them to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted them.
Dixson was arrested on Sept. 10 in Baton Rouge, La., where he fled on a bus after giving police a DNA sample. Investigators said they did not have anything to charge him with at that time so he was let go.
After his arrest, he told police he felt regret for two of the crimes, according to an arrest affidavit: the assaults on Sept. 1 and on Aug. 30. He's formally been charged with aggravated sexual assault in five of the nine rapes.
Dixson is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5.7 million bond. Each of the aggravated robbery charges come with a $100,000 bond.
