DALLAS — Three vehicles were involved in a major accident on Interstate 35E early Saturday morning that left one person dead.

Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban went to sleep at the wheel, lost control and hit a concrete barrier at around 5:15 a.m. near Wycliff Avenue.

The impact spun the SUV around so it was facing north in one of the southbound lanes.

Police said the driver turned on his hazard lights and walked away from the disabled vehicle.

That's when a Honda hit the SUV head-on.

A Pontiac then smashed into that car, causing all three vehicles to burst into flames.

The driver of the Honda was killed; the driver of the Pontiac was taken to a hospital for his injuries and released.

The driver of the Suburban has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.
