DALLAS - An agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was shot during an early-morning gang sweep Thursday in southeastern Dallas near Seagoville.

The sweep was part of a round-up of gang members, said a spokesman with the bureau.

The agent, who was shot twice in the leg while in the doorway of the home where the warrant was being served, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Gary Montgomery, the 29-year-old suspect in the shooting, was taken into custody.

There are three ATF SWAT teams currently in North Texas to help Dallas police round-up violent gang members. They are serving "high-risk" arrest and search warrants across Dallas.

"Because of the nature of these search warrants, obviously we're serving warrants on violent gang members as evidence as of what happened here today, " said Tom Crowley, an ATF spokesman.

After the shooting, a woman inside the house came outside and negotiators were able to persuade the suspect to give himself up.
