DALLAS - Texas A&M’s Board of Regents voted Friday to add the A&M name and brand to several entities within the A&M system, including the Baylor College of Dentistry.
A&M will now begin talks with Baylor University about how to include both schools in the college’s name.
The proposal is to rename the school the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, located on the campus of Baylor Hospital in Dallas. However, if Baylor does not agree to that, it could become the Texas A&M College of Dentistry, a move many alumni are not happy with.
They say Baylor is looked at as one of the top dental schools in the world and they don’t want to lose that identity.
The Regents also approved adding the A&M name to other agencies.
For example, the Texas Forest Service will become the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Transportation Institute will become the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
The changes are effective September 1.
