A 5-year-old boy was killed in a crash Sunday night in Seagoville. The boy's grandfather was driving.

The grandfather, Tony Dickerson, 52, tried to make a U-turn near W. Simonds and Bowers and lost control of his pickup truck, striking a pole of a fence surrounding a pond at around 8 p.m.

Josiah Dickerson, 5, was mortally wounded in the accident.

The grandfather faces intoxication manslaughter charges.

The boy's mother said Josiah often begged to go on nightly drives with his grandfather. She said she doesn't blame her father, who lives with the family, for the accident.

"We're a tight family," she said. "I don't want someone making him out for something that he wasn't."

If convicted, Tony Dickerson could face up to 20 years in jail.
