4-year-old boy shot
A 4-year-old Dallas boy is recovering at Children’s Hospital after he accidentally shot himself with his grandfather’s gun at a home in the 8200 block of Campanella Drive.
Dallas police spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell said the boy wandered into the grandfather’s room and found the gun underneath a pillow. Somehow, the gun went off, sending a bullet into the child’s shoulder.
He was taken to Children’s Hospital by Careflight at about 8 p.m. Mitchell says the injury does not appear to be life threatening.
The boy’s mother was in a separate room tending to her infant child and the grandfather “was in another area of the house,” Mitchell wrote in an email.
The department’s child abuse investigators will determine if charges should be filed. The family has not been identified.
