BIG SPRING, Texas (AP) — Part of Interstate 20 in West Texas has been closed after an overpass collapsed during a two-vehicle wreck.
A spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Transportation says the stretch of I-20 west of Big Spring could reopen by this weekend. Darah (DAYR'-uh) Waldrip said Thursday that detours continue around the accident site near mile marker 170.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Tuesday night's accident involved two 18-wheelers. One truck hit a guard rail, the driver over-corrected and the big rig smashed into the support beams, causing a section of overpass to fall. A second truck then plowed into the overpass debris on I-20.
DPS on Thursday said the drivers were not hurt. No charges were immediately filed.
