HOUSTON (AP) — In a July 23 story about a Houston-area teacher arrested for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl at Texas Southern University, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the girl was attending band camp at TSU and the teacher was an instructor at the camp. The girl was not attending the camp and the teacher was not an instructor there, but he had transported students from his own school district to attend the camp.
A corrected version of the story is below:
Texas teacher accused of sex assault on TSU campus
Houston-area elementary teacher, 42, charged with sex assault of girl, 13, on TSU campus
HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston-area elementary school teacher and music instructor has been charged with having sex with a 13-year-old girl in a college parking garage.
Harris County jail records show 42-year-old Kenyan Rodgers was being held Tuesday on charges of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Bond was set at $200,000 for Rodgers, who was booked July 16.
A statement Monday from the Fort Bend Independent School District says Rodgers, who taught at Ridgegate Elementary School, has been put on administrative leave.
Rodgers had transported some students to a band camp being held on the campus of Texas Southern University in Houston. The Fort Bend ISD says the district did not sponsor the trip. A police report indicates the alleged sexual encounter happened in a TSU parking garage. Rodgers was arrested by campus police.
No attorney was listed for Rodgers, who's not affiliated with TSU.
