GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A couple accused of forcing their 9-year-old child to live at times in a locked wooden box have been extradited back to South Texas after being apprehended in Nevada.
The 49-year-old stepmother of the boy, now 10, bonded out of the Galveston County jail by Tuesday morning. The child's 43-year-old father posted bond earlier. The couple were booked into the jail Sunday after being transported from a Las Vegas jail. The Associated Press isn't naming the adults to protect the identity of the child.
Authorities found the couple early this month in Las Vegas. Galveston police had been searching for them since March when they were indicted on charges that include injury to a child.
The boy ran away from home last July and is now in foster care. The home was searched and investigators said they found an 8-by-6-foot particleboard box in a laundry room.
