DALLAS – Just over two weeks ago, two people were killed when a pair of drivers racing on Interstate 35E set off a fiery chain-reaction collision involving seven vehicles.
Kory Lamonte Crayton, 39, has been sitting in the Dallas County Jail on $300,000 bond since August 21, the day of the wreck. On Wednesday, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carmen Castro sends word that two more people have been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Fredrick Don Sibley, 39, was the driver of a 2004 Ford Mustang, which “struck the victims’ vehicle so violently that it burst into flames, resulting in their deaths," Castro writes.
Also charged with manslaughter is Elmore Dismuke III, 26, who was riding in the passenger seat of Crayton’s 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.
When asked why the passenger of one of the two cars that started this fatal collision was charged with the same thing as the driver, Castro said she would clarify with investigators and see if they’ll disclose specifics. We’ll update this story if the department can elaborate.
The release, however, says his manslaughter charge is “based on evidence uncovered during the investigation.”
Dismuke and Sibley were arrested Wednesday morning and join Crayton in the Dallas County Jail, Castro said. They’re awaiting arraignment.
The grisly crash injured three others in addition to the two killed. The wreck backed up Interstate 35E at Illinois Ave. for hours.
The two victims have not been identified pending DNA analysis, Castro said.
