FORT WORTH -- New questions have been raised about whether or not road construction in Tarrant County is to blame for two deadly crashes within 10 days.

A car and an 18-wheeler collided on Interstate 35W just before Meacham Boulevard around 1 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a driver heading south slammed into the semi, which was turning out of a construction zone, and died.

On June 9 there was another fatal crash less than two miles north of there. Two lanes of I-35 were closed after an 18-wheeler and two vehicles collided. One person was killed in that accident.

Construction remains a constant on I-35W and Loop 820 as the North Tarrant Express Project wraps up. According to its website, the project is 95 percent complete and six months ahead of schedule.

This is a project to rebuild 820 from Airport Freeway, and it includes an upgrade of the I-35W interchange.
