GRAND PRAIRIE -- A 19-year-old was hit and killed by a suspected drunken driver Sunday as he walked along Corn Valley Road.

Naiim Bethea, 19, was walking north in the right-hand lane of traffic on a bridge over a creek when he was struck by a 2002 Dodge pickup truck at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday. The truck launched the pedestrian over the guardrail, where he fell into a creek bed 19 feet below. Bethea was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 31-year-old driver of the truck, George T. Roarx of Grand Prairie, said he didn't see Bethea walking in the road. Roarx was found to be intoxicated and placed under arrest for DWI.

The fatality remains under investigation. It's the 10th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year, according to a Grand Prairie Police press release.
