DALLAS (AP) — Prosecutors in Dallas say a man accused of raping his girlfriend and mutilating her so badly that she needed more than 500 stitches used knives and a brick in the attack.
The trial of 34-year-old Jose Arreola continued Wednesday in Dallas. He's charged with aggravated sexual assault, family violence and retaliation.
Investigators say Arreola was free on bail following an alleged 2009 attack on the woman when she was assaulted again in March 2011.
The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/10IszEf ) reports a sheriff's department investigator called the second attack "particularly revolting and monstrous."
Court records indicate the woman was beaten with a lamp, a brick and an unknown object. Several knives that were recovered had the woman's hair and blood on them.
