DALLAS (AP) — The Nasher Sculpture Center next year will mark the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas with a concert to include a musical composition commissioned for the occasion.
A concert at the Dallas museum on Nov. 23, 2013, will feature composer Steven Mackey's "One Red Rose," which will be performed by the Brentano String Quartet. An encore performance will be scheduled for the next day at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. Both concerts will also feature a discussion with the audience.
Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
Mackey says his work's title is a reference to a blood-soaked red rose that fell from the bouquet of first lady Jacqueline Kennedy that day.
