DALLAS -- Laura Bush and Barbara Bush are headlining a Dallas conference on first ladies.
Presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin will moderate a conversation with the former first ladies.
Other panels will include a discussion with historians on the influence of first ladies.
Laura Bush’s chief of staff in the White House, Anita McBride, is chairing the Monday conference at Southern Methodist University. McBride says she hopes the conference helps people "gain a broader understanding of the significance of this role."
The conference is a collaboration between the White House Historical Association, American University and the National Archives, which oversees presidential libraries.
Former President George W. Bush’s library is being built at Southern Methodist.
