IRVING - News 8 has confirmed Irving Fire Chief Mario Molina has been placed on administrative leave.

Molina has been under fire recently by firefighters critical of his management style and by the media.

About a year ago, firefighters handed Molina a vote of no confidence.

News 8 reported in February of this year on Molina's alleged manipulation of response times to fires. The Dallas Morning News recently confirmed the existence of an FBI investigation into Molina's contract discussions with former Mayor Herb Gears.

Then just a few weeks ago, the Dallas Morning News reported a possible FBI investigation of Molina. The FBI will not confirm or deny any active investigations.

Over the past year,  Irving City Council members have reviewed critics claims and taken no action against Molina, who has been Irving's fire chief since 2007.
