The police chief in the Hill County town of Covington — 12 miles north of Hillsboro — is jailed in Johnson County and charged with one count of prescription fraud.
Three weeks ago, Chief Wade Laurence was the subject of a News 8 investigation. A large group of Covington residents — including two City Council members — complained that Laurence had, in effect, taken over the town and terrorized residents who crossed him.
The chief was also accused of prescription fraud.
After a three-week investigation, the Texas Rangers made an arrest on Tuesday.
Laurence's bond was set at $20,000.
