How do you protect your loved ones? Here's a compiled list of critical resources to help ensure your loved one is in a safe nursing home environment. 

1. THE SENIOR SOURCE

A Dallas-based non-profit, The Senior Source provides resources to "assist, protect and connect older adults to resources, opportunities and to independence." The non-profit offers help ranging from financial safety guidance to in-home companionship to caregiver support.

2. MEDICARE.GOV: NURSING HOME COMPARE

Nursing Home Compare has detailed information about every Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. You can search on their site to "find nursing homes based on a location and compare the quality of care they provide and their staffing."

3. THE ELDERLY FINANCIAL SAFETY CENTER

The Elder Financial Safety Center in Dallas is the first of its kind in the nation, helping shield older adults from financial fraud and exploitation. Established in May 2014, the collaborative partnership is made up of The Senior Source, Dallas County Probate Courts, and District Attorney’s Office.

The center provide financial coaching, insurance counseling, benefits assistance, frauds and scams advocacy, debt management, employment services, money management, guardianship services and prosecution services.
