As West Nile continues to be a concern in North Texas, WFAA checked with area school district to see what their policies are on bringing insect repellent to schools. Here is what we found:
Districts that do not allow repellent in the classrooms:
- PLANO ISD: Parents put on repellent before they leave home; students who bring products to school must check it with the nurse
- ARLINGTON: Put on repellent before leaving home
Districts that allow repellent:
- HIGHLAND PARK: Students may bring insect repellent to school to use as necessary
- FORT WORTH: Students can bring repellent
- CARROLLTON: Repellent will be allowed. It be handled like over-the-counter medication; nurses will administer if the student has a note and repellent will now be allowed in classroom
Not known:
- DALLAS: Not sure of policy; no one was available to find out
