PLANO — Collin County Health Care Services confirmed Wednesday a Plano resident has become the fourth West Nile virus-related death recorded in the county this year.
The deceased patient was showing signs of West Nile virus in August, when the disease was at its peak.
A news release from the City of Plano indicated new West Nile virus cases have become more sporadic. The number of human cases in both Dallas County and Tarrant County is unchanged this week.
There are 364 human cases in Dallas County, 259 in Tarrant County, 164 in Denton County and 73 in Collin County.
It was the second human death in 2012 from West Nile in Plano, and there are 28 human cases in the city.
The Garland Health Department announced a new ground-level mosquito spraying campaign beginning Wednesday night after confirmation of the city's 39th human case of West Nile.
Spraying will take place near the 2700 block of Big Oaks Drive, where the latest case was reported.
