Mobile dentist office comes to you

Mobile dentist unit helps busy employees

A lot of us want to take care of ourselves, but sometimes it’s not easy or convenient. We’re too busy.

“They’ve got to take care of their family, they've got to take their kids to the doctor, they usually put themselves last,” said Dr. Michael Fooshee, who has worked for two years on his company called New Avenue Dentistry.

The concept of mobile dentistry isn’t necessarily new but it hasn’t been widely available in North Texas until now.

Andrea Day works as a paralegal Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, which doesn’t leave much time for a dentist appointment.

“I moved here a little over 5 years ago, and I honestly don't remember the last time I went to a dentist from back home,” said Day, 28. “So thinking about it, I was like, I really do need a dentist.”

It’s not entirely her fault, right? The average dentist in America is open just three days a week.

“Who wants to use your vacation time to go to the dentist?” said Day.

Fooshee saw the problem and responded with New Avenue: A three-room mobile unit with all the bells and whistles of a regular dentist office.

“You're going to get the same thing you'd get anywhere else; it just happens to comes to you," said Fooshee. “We do everything from check-ups and cleanings to fillings and root canals and crowns… whitening, you name it."

They rolled out the unit in January and have set up shop for a week at a time in parking lots from Plano to Irving --- with permission, of course.

“We work with the company to figure out how many employees do they have on site, how much demand is there going to be? The employer doesn't pay anything for us to be on site,” explained Fooshee, who even went to truck driving school to be licensed to drive the unit himself.

Clearly, he’s a dentist with passion for his work and sensitivity to time for patients like Day.

“We're really focused on what we can do to get people in the door to help take care of themselves,” said Fooshee.

Day, who ended up getting a full cleaning and two cavities filled before heading back to her desk was happy.

“It is the most convenient thing I've ever experienced. They literally sent me a text message saying your chair is ready, so I worked up until the time of the appointment."

New Avenue Dentistry is in network with most large PPOs. If you don’t have insurance, they are running a new patient special for $59.99.
