CareNow clinics in North Dallas, Frisco, Lake Worth, Plano, Mesquite, Arlington and Keller all report lots of cases of strep throat.

Strep is a highly contagious bacterial infection spread usually by coughing or sneezing.

Symptoms include:

  • Sudden, severe sore throat
  • Pain, when swallowing
  • Fever over 101
  • Swollen tonsils or neck lymph nodes
  • White or yellow spots on the back of the throat

Many people do not realize that strep usually goes away on its own in 7 to10 days, without treatment.

Doctors will prescribe antibiotics because they decrease the risk of complications and they may shorten the time a strep patient is infectious to others not because antibiotics will make the patient recover faster.
