DALLAS — More than 40 different medicines for children — including liquid Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl — have been recalled.

The Food and Drug Administration says the potential for serious medical problems is remote, and are they advising parents to stop using the children's medicines as a precaution

McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, says some of the medicines might contain particles that don't meet quality control standards. Others contain too much active ingredient.

Pharmacists caution parents to make smart choices when it comes to substituting medicine.

"Don't take the adult strength," said Joe Park, a pharmacist. "Use the children's strength, but there are generics for every one of the items so they won't be without medicine."

While Dougherty's Pharmacy is accepting returns, some stores are not.

Consumers have the option of filling out a form on McNeil's website, entering specific numbers from the medicine bottle, including the expiration date. They can then request either a product coupon or a full refund.
