DALLAS - It's only June 7and North Texas is already experiencing triple-digit temperatures and ozone alerts.
Could this be a sign of a scorching hot summer in front of us?
The downtown Dallas skyline could hardly be seen through the haze Monday with hot temperatures, hardly any wind and high ozone levels. It was a perfect combination for smog and discomfort for those with breathing problems.
But, there is some help on how to beat the heat. Two events were scheduled Tuesday morning directly related to the North Texas heat:
At 10:30 a.m., TXU Energy traveled with Tarrant County Meals on Wheels volunteers to give away more than 4,600 LED flashlights and magnets with heat safety tips. The idea is to educate senior citizens on how to control their energy bills, and most importantly to prevent dangerous heat-related problems.
At 11a.m., Dallas County Health and Human Services and Reliant Energy officials talked about ways to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Also provided were details on several summer assistant programs, including bill payment help and flexible payment options for critical care customers, low-income seniors and other low income customers.
