KINGWOOD, Texas—A Kingwood mother who lost her limbs after giving birth has moved into a new home with the help of numerous donations.

After Katy Hayes delivered her third child, she ended up in the hospital with a Strep A infection. The infection forced her husband Al to make the difficult decision to amputate while Katy was unconscious.

When 11 News first aired the story in May, viewers stepped up to help and provided the family with wheelchair-accessible van and new arms and legs. Their story touched so many people that donations started pouring in from all over the country. That money allowed Al and Katy to buy a bigger house, making it easier for Katy to get around.

"Don’t ever take it for granted, walking in the grass, you know just don’t ever take it for granted ‘cause I’ll miss it forever," Katy said. "I’m only 41 years old and I’ll never feel it again."

Katy said she hopes her story will inspire others.
