The FDA said Thursday there's a potentially serious side effect for children and pets from the menopause medication Evamist.

Federal officials say accidental exposure from the hormone spray has caused premature puberty in children as young as three.

The drug is sprayed on the skin between the elbow and wrist. Some are now questioning whether exposure to "hot flash cream" treatments could pose similar risks.

The FDA says if children come into contact with Evamist, they should wash the area immediately with soap and water.
