DUNCANVILLE -- Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) confirmed this fifth human case of West Nile virus in the county this season on Thursday.
The patient lives in ZIP code 75137 in Duncanville and was diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of the virus. No other patient information was released.
“Dallas County wants to alert the public that the mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus are here and they’re active,” said DCHHS Director Zachary Thompson said in a press release. “Our mosquito surveillance program and the county and municipal abatement teams are taking the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of our residents. However, it is important that residents do their part by taking the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to the virus.”
The health department reminds residents to use mosquito repellent with DEET, dress in long sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk, and drain any standing water on their property.
