DALLAS (AP) — A co-defendant of a Dallas-area doctor charged with a massive Medicare and Medicaid fraud scheme has pleaded guilty to recruiting patients and billing for unnecessary medical services.

Cyprian Akamnonu pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. The plea agreement calls for a 10-year maximum sentence.

According to court documents, Akamnonu admitted he had his home health agency sign up Medicare clients. His company would then bill Medicare for more services than were actually provided.

Dr. Jacques Roy is accused of signing off on false paperwork in a scheme alleged to have reached more than $375 million.

Akamnonu's attorney declined to comment.

Roy attorney Ali Fazel says he is still reviewing all materials related to the case.
