Haiti garage sale
RICHLAND HILLS — A home-grown effort in Richland Hills on Saturday raised money to help the victims of Haiti's earthquake.
The garage sale was the brainchild of Texas Woman's University nursing student Scarlett Pope. She has volunteered in Haiti for several years.
Pope said she was surprised so many people jumped in to help. "It started just like that, and I just started getting the word out," she said. "Then people used e-mail and Facebook, and they produced all of this," she said, displaying the donated items.
Pope said the money she raises will go to a non-profit group called Real Hope for Haiti that operates a clinic in that island nation.
The garage sale runs again on Sunday at 7013 Trinidad Drive in Richland Hills.
