Firefighter injured in Parker County grass fire

Crews battle large grass fire in Parker County

One firefighter was injured as crews battled a large grass fire in Parker County Wednesday afternoon.

Parker County Judge Mark Riley said the fire was about 75 to 80 percent contained by early evening. The fire is about 10 miles south of Weatherford on Walden Road near Granbury Highway.

More than 250 acres have been scorched. Dozens of firefighters battled the blaze for more than three hours.

A brush truck that was destroyed got caught in a sandy area by the field. Riley said the firefighter from that truck was sent to Parkland Hospital with unknown injuries, although he was stable.

He was released from the hospital late Wednesday evening.

Officials told WFAA that the fire is heading east towards Texas State Highway 171, where it will likely hold. Texas A&M Forest Service is on scene building fire breaks to suppress the blaze.

American Red Cross said they are sending volunteers to provide water, snack and any needed support to the firefighters.

A few houses were briefly threatened, but none burned.
