ST. LOUIS — Newt Gingrich, who was in St. Louis on Friday for the National Rifle Association convention, was bitten by an animal while he was visiting the St. Louis Zoo.

The presidential hopeful was sporting a small bandage on his finger after being bit by a penguin. It happened during a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo when he encountered two of the flightless birds and one of them ended up nipping his finger.

A zoo spokesman said the bandage was only medical care Gingrich required.
