FORT WORTH — It's a mighty comeback for a dog that was definitely down on his luck.

Last March, we introduced you to Tugg, a four-year-old Bull Terrier found all but dead by the side of the road.

Tugg ended up at the Fort Worth Animal Shelter. That could have been his final chapter, but an animal control officer nursed him back to health.

Now Tugg has won the American Kennel Club's Humane Fund Award for Canine Excellence at a ceremony in Orlando, Florida. The award is given to dogs who make a contribution to society.

Tugg,  named Exemplary Companion Dog, has used his fame to raise money for a variety of causes, and he makes regular visits to schools.

He also has his own Facebook page with more than 9,300 fans.
