CEDAR HILL — This has been a week for honoring heroes who sacrifice their lives to protect our freedom — whether they are service members, police or firefighters.
But on Saturday, a group in Cedar Hill also honored our four-legged heroes — the dogs who serve and protect with their human handlers.
The Cedar Hill Pet Memorial Project held a dedication ceremony for its new War Dog Monument that will be displayed in the pet cemetery.
Organizer Theresa Brandon said the monument does more than honor the animal human bond. "I also want people to realize how truly wonderful these working dogs are to us in our community and our country," she said.
The monument is titled Enduring Valor. The sculpture was modeled after a Belgian Malinois named Titus who works for Cedar Hill police.
