DALLAS — Homeless kids and homeless dogs? Turns out, it's a good combination.

Operation Kindness, a North Dallas program that brings them together, offers a lesson in how to love.

The animals were abandoned and brought to the no-kill animal shelter. The kids are from Vogel Alcove, a child care facility where homeless kids can hang out while parents get back on their feet.

The youngsters spent the last few months making toys for the dogs, while learning the proper way to treat a pet.

"We've kind of worked together and learned tenderness and kindness and how to take care of a dog, and how much a dog can actually love you and provide you with nurturing," said Operation Kindness volunteer Lesa Truax. "That's something a lot of these kids have never had."

But are clearly learning.
