"The Other Guys" is an on-again/off-again action cop comedy; but when it's funny, it's very funny.
Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play bumbling good guys hitting the streets and fighting crime. One problem: They are incredibly inept, and spend most of their time fighting each other.
"The Other Guys" eventually zero in on a white-collar criminal, and that's where the film falls apart. The story is roll-your-eyes bad, with too many chaotic car crashes and explosions.
But when the characters focus on each other, it's funny; and that includes the odd, giggly marriage between Ferrell and Eva Mendes.
"The Other Guys" is rated a raunchy PG-13, and works better the first hour, eventually running out of steam.
It's an uneven film; better than the dreadful "Land Of The Lost" and not as good as "Anchorman" or "Talledega Nights."
At least Will Ferrell is back to being funny, and that's a comedy-step in the right direction.
