"The Last Song" is being advertised as a "grown-up" vehicle for Miley Cyrus. And, that's half-true; because it's an average, at best, film written by Nicholas Sparks specifically for the teen star. Miley plays Ronnie, a female rebel sent to live at the beach with her divorced dad, played by Greg Kinnear. She meets a boy, she rescues turtles, and it's all terribly slow and predictable.
"The Last Song" is rated PG and features beautiful photography but forced dialogue, meaning it's still too early to tell if Miley Cryus can actually act on the big screen. This is a vehicle, nothing more, nothing less, and designed for a young female audience; and, like all Nicholas Sparks scripts, expect a big dose of tragedy. It plays like a Lifetime TV movie, so keep your sights low.
