"Mesrine; Killer Instinct" is a high-end, French gangster movie starring Vincent Cassel as France's "Public Enemy Number One," Jacques Mesrine, a legendary, notorious killer who robbed banks, escaped from prison, and took no prisoners.

The film arrives in two parts, with part one opening this week and chronicling Mesrine's early life of extraordinary crime. The performances are good, the film stylish and violent, and highly watchable.

Don't expect "The Godfather" but by the time part two arrives, you will be four hours deep into a well-made gangster epic.
