NEW YORK (AP) — The executive producer of "The Early Show" on CBS is leaving to start a new venture that aims to bring together traditional news content and social media.

Zev Shalev (SHAH'-lehv) is the chief behind-the-scenes executive on the morning show, which has seen some ratings growth despite being perpetually in third place behind "Today" and "Good Morning America." CBS has not named a replacement.

Shalev's new Web site, called NewsTsar, is expected to begin operation next spring. He says he wants to find a way to use material like Twitter feeds and cell phone video in news stories and involve the public in a new way.

Shalev says he has always wanted to start his own company.
