Extract is a funny, goofy, little movie starring the likeable and versatile, Jason Bateman, who plays Joel, the owner of a vanilla extract company, and a man in the process of making bad decisions, both at home and at work.
Joel is pretty much a mess, so is his wife, played by Kristen Wiig. They have no intimacy and that makes Joel's eye and mind start to wander. Joel is also being egged on by his bartender buddy, Dean, played with a silly grin by Ben Affleck.
Extract is written and directed by Texas film-maker Mike Judge. He created Beavis & Butthead, King of The Hill and the brilliant comedy Office Space. His latest is technically sloppy but the writing is good, the jokes are funny, and the film slightly insightful about the current state of unemployment.
Extract is rated a strong R. It can get pretty raunchy, but overall it's a comedy that gets better and better, the deeper in trouble Joel finds himself. It's a little movie from a funny film maker about the bad decisions we often make.
