GALVESTON (AP) — Computer issues in a Southeast Texas county delayed the opening of some polls and prompted a court request to allow voting sites to remain open an extra two hours.
Authorities in Galveston County say 44 of the county's 45 voting centers were fully operating by midmorning Tuesday. Elections spokesman Bill Sargent says technicians were at the lone site still having issues.
Sargent says polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday but in several locations workers did not start the computer system testing early enough. He had no estimate on how many voters left without casting ballots.
Democratic and GOP leaders agreed that voting centers should stay open for the amount of ballot time lost, pushing the voter deadline to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, which was approved by a judge in the afternoon.
