MESQUITE -- A distraught man with a gun waiting outside a business where his wife works spurred Mesquite ISD to lock down nearby Mesquite High School, Agnew Middle School and Florence Black Elementary School Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The lockdown was lifted around 4:15 p.m. after the man was taken into custody.

While there was no direct threat to the schools, not all students were released on time.

Students at Agnew and Black who ride the bus as well as students who are being picked up by an authorized adult will be released. Students at those schools who do not have a ride planned will not be released. MHS remains on lockdown and no Mesquite High students will be released at this time.

Officers said the suspect was taken to a medical facility to be evaluated.
