Reading can certainly be an escape, a bridge to an imaginary world, or the key to understanding the one we actually live in. Teachers say it's a critical foundation for every child's future.

Our first stop in a new series called "Shelly's Summer Bookworms" was at Tommie M. Allen Recreation Center in Oak Cliff.

News 8's Shelly Slater brings us the story.

Send us a photo of your child with their favorite book and we'll share it on television. E-mail them to share@wfaa.com.
